Considering Britney Spears and Christina Aguilera were both former Mouseketeers, it’s no surprise that Disney’s latest teen celeb is going after their old dance-pop crowd.

Twenty-one-year-old Ashley Tisdale started out on The Suite Life of Zack & Cody, but she’s most famous as Sharpay Evans in last year’s smash TV movie High School Musical. Since the soundtrack was also 2006’s highest-selling album, her music has got a built-in fanbase.

The highly produced, handclap-heavy electro-pop beats are actually way better than might be expected. Though there are the expected sappy slow songs, she also tries adding a slight hip-hop edge to her squeaky clean image.

Tisdale’s Gwen Stefani-indebted solo debut is fun enough, but Headstrong simply doesn’t boast a pop song mind-blowing enough to help more discerning listeners get beyond her bland vocals.
