Lily Allen - Alright, Still

Lily Allen
Alright, Still

EMI

Famously discovered via her hilarious MySpace page, West London-raised singer-songwriter Lily Allen won over her home island last year with a winning combination of bright sunny ska-pop and sweetly sarcastic lyrics.

Now the budding British pop star is bringing that winning combination across the pond to conquer us, too.

Though the online sensation is already well-known amongst the blogger set, Lily’s half-sung, half-rapped songs such as the ironically exuberant “LDN” and adorably mean-spirited “Smile” are replete with mainstream potential.

They’re also filled with up-yours attitude. The 21-year-old gleefully disses her brother on “Alfie,” slams barroom lotharios on “Knock ’Em Out” and coos threats all over “Shame on You” and the beat-driven club anthem “Friday Night”. But just when you think she’s all sass, “Littlest Things” gets sadly emotional describing an idealized day drinking tea in bed and shopping for sneakers with her now ex-boyfriend.

Plus, Lily’s cute, clever and prone to wearing pink prom dresses. The girl’s more than alright to us.
